How It Works
The symptoms of the hangover are caused by a large number of complex biochemical effects. Once alcohol is consumed, it is metabolised by the liver (90%) and lost in the breathe (5%) and urine (5%). About 20% of the alcohol is absorbed from the stomach into the blood stream and the rest (80%) from the small intestine.
As your body processes the alcohol, it gets metabolised in the liver first to acetaldehyde and then to acetic acid by 2 separate enzymatic reactions. Acetaldehyde is much more toxic than the alcohol itself and is the main reason for our hangover symptoms. Females have an altered enzyme, compared to males, which slows the conversion of acetaldehyde to acetic acid. This is why most females have a tendency to show symptoms of a hangover on a smaller intake of alcohol than males. It is not because females have smaller blood volumes than males.
In addition to ethanol (ethyl alcohol), which is the main alcohol in alcoholic beverages, congeners (additional type of alcohol) can be found in certain drinks like whiskey, rum and red wines. These congeners are formed during the fermentation process when certain types of free amino acids are converted to these alcohols. It is well understood that these congeners are toxic in low concentrations and also play a role in causing hangover symptoms.
So how does REWIND work you ask?
When you take REWIND, it gets absorbed into your body through the stomach and intestines and goes to work immediately to help your body metabolize or process the alcohol. With the help of REWIND, the amount of acetaldehyde toxins, created as a by-product from processing alcohol, are greatly reduced. Since these toxins are what actually cause your hangover symptoms, the significant reduction in these toxins means no hangover symptoms the next morning.
